American SportBike RoadRacing Series

With Clear Channel's restructuring in late 2005, the Championship Cup Series might have faded into oblivion if not for the intuitive actions of Kevin Elliott, who had been the CCS/FormulaUSA roadrace manager since the PACE/SFX/Clear Channel buy-out.

In December of that year Elliott and his wife, Nancy, formed ASRA (American SportBike Racing Association LLC), got the CCS license from Clear Channel, and resumed operations January 1st of 2006 using a newly appointed staff. Because of the Elliott's timely determination, the transition from "big business" back to "privately run" was seamless - virtually invisible to the general public. Lockhart Phillips USA and all of the other contingency sponsors rallied to show their support of the new regime by renewing their commitments.

The Pro Series was renamed to ASRA since the Formula USA name was still being used in other Clear Channel/Live Nation activities at the time.

2008 ASRA LogoIn March 2006, Roger Edmondson once again became involved in motorcycle roadracing by forming the Moto-ST series. The Inaugural 8 Hours at Daytona Moto-ST endurance race ran during the October 2006 CCS Race of Champions at Daytona International Speedway. The Moto-ST series continued as an additional race at each of the CCS Daytona events in 2007 thru 2009.

Motosport.comAfter 5 full years of Series Sponsorship, Lockhart Phillips USA backed down and ceased support to CCS in 2007. The reason given was that AMA raised their sponsorship rates and they needed make changes in other areas to compensate. Then in December 2008 Motosport.com came aboard as the ASRA and CCS presenting sponsor, signing a contract for the 2008 and 2009 racing seasons.

Unrelated to ASRA/CCS, AMA's roadracing division was sold to DMG (Daytona Motorsports Group) in 2008 with Roger Edmondson playing an active role in the new structure. AMA announced plans to return to their roots as a non-profit, membership organization only. On December 30, 2009, it was announced that Roger would be leaving his position as Manager, Managing Member and Chief Executive Officer of AMA Pro Racing effective January 1, 2010, citing "unforeseen health issues" as the reason.
